Tuesday December 9, 2014 :

It’s been all about the classic Hip Hop this week in Brisbane and Eaton’s Hill has been the focal point. With Ice Cube on last night; it all started off on Tuesday night with the legendary Cypress Hill. Having only just visited Australia last year for their odd placing on the Soundwave lineup, the guys were back this time to raise the roof across some of Australia’s finest venues.

Joining them for their Brisbane show was local act Ivan Ooze. Kicking off a set of some solid rhyme busting and witty freestyling, Ivan well and truly got the crowd warmed up with support from his MC Junior. From the chants that included “Cypress…Hill”, and an abundance of on-stage energy, Ivan and Junior provided some great pre-Cypress entertainment and got the venue filled up.

With a crowd of 700 strong awaiting their arrival, the 4 piece American crew took the stage to an eruption of applause. Kicking their set off with ‘I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That’, Cypress brought a stack of energy to what was already an energy packed room. Frontmen B-Real and Sen Dog brought tons of character whilst Julio G (decks) and Eric “Bobo” Correa (Percussion) laid down the rhythm and beats.

From ‘When The Shit Goes Down’, Cypress then launched into some serious Latino Hip Hop with ‘Tequila Sunrise’ complete with bongos and cowbell. Suddenly the crowd was split down the middle as the two dedicated singers tried to determine what was better: getting drunk or getting high. This brought up some compliments from the band on our “good Australian weed”, and sure enough this encouraged the crowd to light up.

‘Insane In The Membrane’ came out early closely followed by ‘Dr Green Thumb’. This then led to a battle between the decks and drums where the “fastest hands in the world” let rip on the percussion kit. ‘A To The K’ brought up their “Gangsta shit” before the guys finally introduced each other. B-Real (West mic) recently picked up the 2014 Stoner of the Year award, whilst Sen Dog (East mic) will apparently “piss on your face and shit on your chest”.

The guys left the stage with thundering applause and left Ice Cube with some big shoes to fill the following night.
