Wednesday May 29, 2013 :

Fremantle Indie four piece, San Cisco, kicked off the NSW leg of their Australia wide The Beach Tour on Wednesday night at my favourite live music venue in Newcastle, the Glasshouse at the Cambridge Hotel. We arrived in time to catch the end of the set by support act Millions delighting the young crowd with their two most popular songs, ‘Nineteen’ and ‘Slow Burner’.

San Cisco took to the small stage quietly and commenced their set with a couple of mellow but catchy songs including the infectious tune ‘Toast’. Despite the group’s slightly shy demeanour, the crowd was highly energetic and all were involved in a sing along by the second tune in. Ear-worm ‘Awkward’, about half way through the set was as sweet as eating ice-cream on a Summer’s day and had everyone engaged in a boy verses girls sing off to the “la la lahs” in the chorus. The melodic goodness continued and the song ‘Fred Astaire’ had my heart singing and my feet moving. The set was all over too quickly in less than one hour, but the band delighted with a two song encore including the beautiful and bright melody ‘Wild Things’.

We could have stayed for hours listening to the cute and catchy tunes of San Cisco. The aptly named Beach Tour delivered a good dose of sunshine to the soul, perfect for chasing away the winter blues.
