[Live Review] XAVIER RUDD (Gold Coast)

The Night Quarter, Gold Coast
Friday August 10, 2018 :

With a sold out show, Xavier Rudd and his new band did certainly impress the crowd, and having his brother Maximillian Rudd as the support act, you could tell talent runs in the Rudd family.

Maximillian has recently released an album called Maximillian. He covered a few of his original songs but also got the crowd singing along to covers ‘You Got A Friend In Me’ and a Jackson 5 hit ‘I Want You Back’, all while being played on his Brazilian 7 string guitar.

Good friends Goomblar and Murrandah Shillingsworth performed a Welcome to Country before Xavier graced the stage with his new band members; Ian Perez on the keys, Yoseph Haile on bass and Lisa Purmodh on drums.

With a new band and new album, I was expecting that they would play more recent stuff but everyone seemed amazed that the band performed songs from 10 years and also from the recent album Storm Boy. It was like going through the ages of 10+ years of music, which was fantastic.

Xavier played some old favourites like ‘Follow The Sun’, ‘Spirit Bird’ and ‘Let Me Be’. It seemed ‘Storm Boy’ and ‘Keep it Simple’ was among the new favourites of the night. He surprised the crowd by jumping on the drums and a didgeridoo hidden under a sheet and played ‘Lioness Eye’ from his album Spirt Bird.

Make sure you get along to a gig, grab the new album or check out this amazing new band as they tour around the country.
