[Live Review] YELLOWCARD

Yellowcard - Monica Winczura 14

The Palace Theatre, Melbourne
Tuesday 29th October, 2013 :

Yellowcard – a band who are impossible not to fall in love with. If not for the mind blowing eargasm that is their music, then for the down to earth personas that each member displayed during their headline show on Tuesday 29 Oct at The Palace Theatre, Melbourne.

Yellowcard are no strangers to Australia and what made this show in particular so damn special was their acoustic renditions of all their songs from one of their earlier albums, Ocean Avenue (2003), playing it through in track order kicking off with ‘Way Away’ and ending the breath taking acoustic set with the final track of the album, ‘Back Home’.

After the wind down, Yellowcard re-amped the crowd with the sound of electric guitars and a violin, continuing their set with songs from their early days which the crowd definitely appreciated as it really appealed to those who have been fans since the beginning.

The band’s energy was incredible throughout the whole show as they jumped nonstop all over the place. I personally found Sean, the violinist, to be the most entertaining with his exaggerated facial expressions and unique stage presence – it’s not every day you see a violinist head bang! He also did an impressive back flip from the drummer’s level which took the audience’s breath away and really got the enthusiasm roaring.

The atmosphere of the event was absolutely amazing and made the gig by far one of the best I’ve ever been to in a long time.
