[News] DIG IT UP! 2013 THIRD LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Tumbleweed 24 lo res rgb

Lets skip the hyperbole. You already know it’s great… So without further ado here we go with Round Three of Dig it Up! 2013.

Stoner-fuzz giants Tumbleweed (pictured above) make their Dig it Up! debut this April featuring all five original members – the same five that brought us Sundial, Hang Around and Stoned (natch). Sydney only.

Scientists / Surrealists / Precious Jules frontman Kim Salmon teams up with drumming cohort Leanne Cowie for a two-piece take on the early Scientists ‘stuff’: Pink album, Blood Red River, Solid Gold Hell plus some rare and related goodies – how good is that! Sydney & Melbourne.

Middle-agers The Crusaders, add Melbourne to their CV after having already been anointed knights at the round table of Sydney fuzz. Melbourne, lookout…

All the way from Geelong, the fabulous furry Frowning Clouds make their Sydney Dig It Up! debut having excelled at their Melbourne appearance last year. It’s a rare harbour city visit from these youngsters more prone to European visits than Sydney. Don’t miss out!

The term legendary is bandied about a little too frequently for our liking but Sydney’s The New Christs deserve that moniker. Lead out front by the ghost-like presence of Rob Younger, The New Christs bring some real rock to the roll from a catalogue spanning almost 30 years. Yikes! Melbourne only.

A former member of both Crime & The City Solution and These Immortal Souls, Harry Howard is now a frontman in his own right playing a Dylan-esque brand of souped up garage-rock with a line-up that also includes Dave Graney and Clare Moore (of The Moodists) and keyboard player Edwina Preston. A “you gotta see this” moment. Melbourne only.

If the endless procession of quality music isn’t enough to tweak your nipples, Dig It Up! has also upped the anti with a stellar cast of comedians appearing across the road and down the road in the Green Room Lounge in Sydney and Spleen Bar in Melbourne. Let us introduce…

Hard-Ons bass-player Ray Ahn is a funny guy. Not a comic as such but he knows how to tell a story. So we wondered (and then asked) why not bring it to the stage? Sure. said Ray. So here he is. Not telling jokes, telling stories. We like stories. Sydney only.

Bruce Griffith is a REALLY funny guy. The some time gag-writer and full time stand-up comedian recently won over a whole legion of unsuspecting fans as warm-up to Henry Rollins. Bruce is also the brains behind Sydney’s Aberrant record label which double qualifies him as a reason to be on Dig It Up! Welcome Bruce! Sydney only.

Dave O’Neil is another funny guy. A bloke from suburban Melbourne (with a huge crush on the Sunnyboys) this former cub scout (and member of infamous eighties Melbourne outfit Captan Cocoa) tells suburban style jokes about the mundanity of suburbia. A surprise hit at Dig it Up! Melbourne 2012 we are chuffed to have Dave back for 2013. Melbourne only.

From the warped mind of Rodney Todd comes Ahmed Zub. Ahmed likes to spend his time doing comedy, eating maccas and doing burnouts with his mates. He also wants to start a political party called “For a sick Australia”. If Rodney wasn’t enough then Ahmed certainly is… Sydney only.

Long time Blue Oyster Cult fan Bob Franklin (favourite song: She’s As Beautiful as a Foot) needed little persuasion when asked to join Dig it Up! 2013. The deadpan TV actor and comedic writer (Jimeoin, Shaun Micallef’s World Around Him, The Mick Malloy Show) is also an accomplished stand-up comedian and brings quality to star studded comedic line-up. Melbourne only.

And still more to come!
