Hoodoo-Gurus-Dig-It-Up-Invitational-2013

Once again the Hoodoo Gurus pay tribute to the sum of their parts (and their peers) by way of Dig it Up! The Hoodoo Gurus Invitational: multi-band / muliti-venue events in Sydney and Melbourne and single stage events in other cities.

2012’s debut Dig It Up! featured the cream of garage and underground rock with invites going out to The Sonics,Redd KrossThe 5,6,7,8’sTek & Younger (ex-Radio Birdman), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate), Died PrettyThe FleshtonesRoyal Headache and loads more. For the 2013 edition of Dig It Up! the Hoodoo Gurus have taken the concept and run wild. It’s their party after-all, so they can do what they want! Lets see who they have invited…

FLAMIN’ GROOVIES: Featuring core members Cyril Jordan, Chris Wilson and George Alexander have reconvened for the first time in over 30 years at the behest of Dig It Up! The band responsible for some of the late seventies most essential recordings including the singles Slow Death and You Tore Me Down and album Shake Some Action have shaken off any differences to appear at Dig It Up! Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Does it get any better than that?

BLUE OYSTER CULT: Mama! The band responsible for some of the greatest rock albums of all time (Tyranny & Mutation, Secret Treaties, Agents Of Fortune) one bona-fide top 20 U.S hit in the all-time classic Don’t Fear The Reaper, the title for Radio Birdmans debut album, Radios Appear, and one of thee GREAT live bands finally make their way to Australian shores at the behest of Dig It Up! Gentlemen, it is an honour!

This is outta control!

BUZZCOCKS: One of the few survivors of ’76, Buzzcocks have also provided us with some of the greatest songs of the punk-era: Ever Fallen In Love, What Do I Get? Love You More, Everybody’s Happy Nowadays et al. Brilliantly conceived pop tracks for the ages. Frequent visitors to our shores, original members Steve Diggle andPete Shelley will once again lead their band of merry pranksters through a veritable feel good punk rock jukebox. Dig it.

Woah….

PETER CASE BAND: Makes his debut Australian appearance pumping out the hits from the bands that put him on the musical map: The Nerves (originators of the Blondie hit Hanging On the Telephone) and The Plimsouls(owners of the power-pop classic A Millions Miles Away) alongside some of his grammy nominated solo material. Backed by a crack-three piece outfit, Case is king of the power-pop mountain, top of the heap and not to be missed.

THE STEMS: Heir apparent to the Hoodoo Gurus in the early eighties. The Stems produced a string of alternative-hit singles, the equal of those of their mentors, and one killer pop album (At First Sight, Violets Are Blue) before splitting in 1988. A mid-noughies reunion saw the release of an equally as impressive second album, Heads Up,and much overseas touring before, in 2009, the band again called it quits. But Dig it Up! knows how to get ’em back… Welcome, The Stems!

HOODOO GURUS play MARS NEEDS GUITARS (and other smash hits). After the success of 2012’s Dig It Up! the Gurus were apprehensive they could repeat the feat. We weren’t. Too many good songs! Too many good bands! We said. And so they came forth, offering to play their other Top 100 Australian album, and putting together an equally as exciting and challenging request list. They’ve outdone themselves. Ladies and Gents, give it up for the Hoodoo Gurus !

But wait, there’s more… for those of you attending Sydney & Melbourne Dig It Up! The Hoodoo Gurus will continue to roll out a stellar selection of acts (bands, comics, DJ’s – over 20 in total) to bring the streets of inner-city Sydney and Melbourne alive with the Dig It Up! sound.
