[News] KATE MILLER-HEIDKE TO OPEN 2018 WITH A ROUND OF REGIONAL SHOWS

Armed with an incredible set of brand new arrangements and backed by a string quartet, Kate Miller-Heidke is bringing her classically-trained vocals and alternative pop sounds to venues around the country in early 2018. Kate will perform in some key regional theatres like Bendigo, Wangaratta, Gosford, Wollongong and Wagga Wagga as well as some special metro city concerts along with major summer festival appearances.

A dynamic artist straddling the worlds of pop, folk and opera, Kate Miller-Heidke has spent the last year performing a suite of her songs with symphony orchestras around the country to huge acclaim, winning the Helpmann Award for Best Australian Contemporary Concert. Kate’s performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was captured and released as a new album, Live At The Sydney Opera House, which was nominated for a Best Classical Album at this year’s ARIA Awards.

Now Kate will take a new musical combo on the road, adapting many of her orchestral pieces into new arrangements that combine her unique vocals and alternative pop sounds – as well as the incredible guitar skills of long-time collaborator Keir Nuttall – with the classical stylings of a string quartet. Audiences can expect to hear exciting new versions of some of her most beloved songs, as well as surprises from the back catalogue. There will be adaptations of songs from her opera The Rabbits, as well as a sneak peak of some new material, as Kate road-tests songs for her next album.

Looking forward to the tour, Kate said, “I’ve spent much of the last year holed up writing ‘Muriel’s Wedding: The Musical’ with Keir, and now that it’s ready to unleash upon the world, I can’t wait to get back on the road – along with some new friends. These new arrangements with a string quartet are so much fun to play, and I’m really excited to perform them for you in some of the most beautiful theatres and locations around the country. See you there!”
