After recently releasing their joyous debut single ‘Air Between Us’, Mama Kin Spender premiered their new single ‘Bird In Your Tree’ on Double J and now look forward to sharing a new video that gives life to the raw rattle and hum of a song that reveals a whole new side of this electrifying project.
The film clip captures the behind the scenes, in-studio mischief of creating the new album Golden Magnetic ahead of its February 2018 release. Directed, filmed and edited by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore, with blissful harmonies and joyful refrains recorded with some of Melbourne’s finest voices; Ainslie Wills, Kira Puru, Virginia Bott, Timothy Harvey and Ryan Downey, this new track and clip is testament to the sonic mojo of Mama Kin Spender .
“‘Bird In Your Tree’ is a kind of stream of consciousness catharsis, a song about yearning for a lover, burning alive inside, but having to keep it cool on the outside,” Spender says. “The stuff about coffee is really because I love it strong and black.”
“That bitter taste somehow helps quench the unfulfilled thirst for someone,” says Mama Kin. “While at the same time celebrating the creative power it unleashes. This song playfully explores the gritty side of desire – bitter, dirty, rusty.”
Punters in NSW and Victoria now get their chance to experience the combination of brooding guitars, primal drums, howling harmonies and mass vocal ensembles in November, with headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne, featured shows at Mullum Music Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival, and a showcase as part of Australian Music Week.
Successful artists in their own right, Mama Kin (aka Danielle Caruana) – an ARIA and AIR award nominee – and Tommy Spender, known for his previous roles in Custom Kings and Offcutts, as well as via collaborations with Gotye, Kimbra and M-Phazes, are hereby united as powerhouse duo Mama Kin Spender. A long time coming, this artistic collaboration pairs these long-time friends and touring partners in a mischief-making musical partnership of joyous proportions.
