[News] ÁSGEIR RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA FOR SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS & HEADLINE SHOWS IN SYDNEY, MELBOURNE AND PERTH

Asgeir-2

Following the announcement of his long awaited return to Australia for Splendour in the Grass, Icelandic singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and collaborator Ásgeir today announces sideshows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth this July. Renowned for his ability to make even the largest of venues feel intimate, Ásgeir sold out two Sydney Opera House shows off the back of his Splendour In The Grass debut in 2014 before making Falls Festival, Southbound and stadium appearances as special guest for alt-J. This time, he comes armed with brand new material from his highly anticipated second album Afterglow due for release May 5 on Pod via Inertia.

Having secured his status as one of music’s most exciting new voices, Ásgeir will be joined by special guest and one of Australia’s most promising exports, Gordi. Signed to the prestigious US-based Jagjaguwar label (home to the likes of Bon Iver and Unknown Mortal Orchestra), the J Award and FBI SMAC Award nominated songwriter was recently invited to perform with Bon Iver on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Gordi is currently working on her debut album after spending time earlier this year recording in Ásgeir’s native Iceland.

Ásgeir’s forthcoming album Afterglow leaves behind the folk-tinged acoustics of his debut, the triple j feature album In The Silence. Diving head first into melancholic, melodic electronica in its purest form, first single ‘Unbound’ is a stunning, yearning piece of music. Second single, the ambitious electro-pop ‘Stardust’ follows on from the tradition of his breakout 2013 track ‘King and Cross’ which saw him instantly added to radio playlists across the country. His version of Milky Chance’s ‘Stolen Dance’ for triple j’s ‘Like A Version’ has reached almost one million views.

From the Icelandic town of Laugarbakki, populated by just 40 people, Ásgeir is every bit as introverted, humble and unassuming as he is gifted. The Icelandic version of the album, Dyrd í dauðathogn, became the fastest selling debut from a home grown artist in Iceland, breaking all previous records and outselling Bjork and Sigur Ros.
