[Live Review] BLUES AND GROOVES

Phil Emmanuel 01-2

Entrance Leagues Club
Saturday August 17, 2013 :

Blues and Grooves returned to the Central Coast at it’s new home in the Entrance Leagues Club with an impressive line-up that included some of Australia’s best blues and rock musicians.

Local blues/rock band Swamp Dogs, featuring event organiser Chris Taylor on guitar and vocals kicked off the night in fine style with a high energy set, warming the healthy crowd for the acts that followed. Melbourne’s solo blues maestro Shaun Kirk performed a stellar set, interacting regularly with the audience who were brought to their feet clapping and dancing along to Shaun’s infectious grooves and powerful vocals. At the end of his set an encore was demanded and a humble Shaun Kirk obliged after thanking the crowd with a resounding rendition of ‘Steam Train’ which was one of the highlights of the night.

Next up was Tony Cini’s Ginhouse Blues Band featuring Chase the Sun’s Jan Rynsaardt on lead guitar. The dance floor was once again packed as one of Australia’s best rhythm sections delivered the goods. Then it was time for Queensland’s Devil’s Kiosk to take the stage who kept the tempo up with their phat grooves and hypnotic blues shuffle lead by Jamie Symonds on vocals and harmonica.

Capping off the night was guitar legend Phil Emmanuel who was joined on stage by Pop Standen and Lightning Jack Ridge in a guitar wielding threesome that were having so much fun, the 12 o’clock close was completely forgotten about, with the party going on until nearly 1am.

Everybody thoroughly enjoy the night and let’s hope that in these difficult times, Blues and Grooves can continue for many years to come.
