Cambridge Hotel Newcastle
Saturday September 6, 2014 :

While it was a cold winter’s night on Saturday, the Cambridge was warm and thick with excitement as Newcastle band Monrobot opened the night. With a strong intro and an energetic performance the audience was enthralled and captivated throughout the set. With the traditional Aussie rock sound, there were strong vocals and the lead guitar was engaging. It gave a charming harmony over the depth of the bass, and the drums really filled the room with a smooth sound.

The room has a great feel, and as it filled up that mood continued to grow. Marlow took to the stage with a great musical introduction. With crisp, strong vocals and an energetic performance from the lead singer, again the audience were captivated with all eyes on the stage. The groovy deep tones of the music were complimented so greatly by the contrast of the vocals. It makes for a fun show when the musicians are visibly enjoying what they do, and Marlow are no exception. With a great level of interaction with the crowd, they were all enthusiastic in response.

Looking around the room it had continued to fill up right to the point of the opening soundtrack starting to play as Like Thieves made their way up onto the stage. I enjoy the audio track playing as an artist takes to the stage, builds the anticipation and the atmosphere and tonight was no exception.

Clint’s vocals are hypnotic and it was hard not to slip into a trance just watching him, with his broad range and diverse sound, every track sounded unique and gave the show a real assortment of sound. The audience was enthusiastic and the band were very humble to this response. The strength of the vocals combined with the strong technicality behind the lead guitarist, the headbanging drummer and groovy bass lines the whole show was a thrill for the audience before them.

The cold weather of winter was disappointing as we may have had more people in the room for this great night of music.
