[Live Review] THE JACKSONS

The Jacksons 042

Civic Theatre, Newcastle
Thursday March 21, 2013 :

Firstly, I have to say that I have never seen the Civic Theatre so full of life as I did for The Jacksons. The crowd were on their feet from the first notes as Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon stepped forward from behind the Civic Theatre curtain and launched into ‘Can You Feel It’.

The setlist covered the entire career of The Jacksons, from ‘ABC’ and ‘I Want You Back’, through ‘Blame it on the Boogie’ and Michael’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something’ and ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’. It was everything a Jackson’s fan would hope for.

Michael was never too far away, be it in video, in song and in the passionate acknowledgement from Marlon, with Jermaine’s touching rendition of Michael’s ‘Gone Too Soon’ poignant and emotional. In fact it was Jermaine’s voice that soared tonight, clearly taking ownership of many of tonight’s vocal highlights as his brother’s harmonised with ease. Marlon had all the dance moves replicating a number of Michael’s signature struts, as well as a nod to James Brown.

Special mention should go to The Jackson’s amazing band and lighting which delivered a full arena production to the intimate surrounds of the Civic Theatre. To have The Jacksons perform in Newcastle was a very special moment for the city, and for all those present tonight.
