[Live Review] TONIGHT ALIVE

3. Tonight Alive (36)

Ding Dong Lounge, Melbourne

When I found out that there was an opportunity to photograph and review Tonight Alive, a band I respect and view so highly, I jumped straight at the chance. I have seen them live before and had high expectations as to their performance – this performance was no exception and the crowd was definitely not let down!

The first support act of the night, A Sleepless Melody, definitely energised the crowd and encouraged them to clap along to their very catchy songs. It was a fantastic start to the night. The second support act was Because They Can. It seemed that the energy that the crowd had during the second act was not as enthusiastic as the first act. However, the many well known covers that they performed continued the positive vibe and got everyone ready in anticipation for the headlining act.

The time finally arrived for Tonight Alive to perform. They were introduced onto the stage with their song ‘Eject, Eject Eject!’ which silenced the crowd and made everyone edge closer to the stage. As soon as Tonight Alive jumped on stage, they began rocking out to ‘Breaking and Entering’. The crowd went crazy! Those closer to the staged moshed while everyone else bumped around to the well known song from their recent album, What are you so scared of?

Tonight Alive performed many songs during their one hour set from both of their albums, as well as a cover of Mumford and Sons, ‘Little Lion Man’. During the performance of the cover, Jenna McDougall, the lead singer of Tonight Alive, requested for there to be a death circle. Everyone near the stage were more than happy to clear a section to rock out in the “circle of death”. There were people running into each other, crowd surfing, people on other people’s shoulders and just generally having an awesome time.

For those of you who missed this sold out show, there will be another chance later on in the year after they release their new album.
