Singer, songwriter, Wergaia / Wemba Wemba Woman & multiple award-winning storyteller, Alice Skye, today announces her biggest tour yet. Following a national run of dates supporting Courtney Barnett, the tour will see Skye take her acclaimed sophomore album, I Feel Better But I Don’t Feel Good, to venues across the country this May.
An artist at the dawn of a meteoric rise, Skye has been making waves with her unique storytelling ability and magnetic songwriting. Winner of ‘Best Pop Act’ at the 2021 Music Victoria Awards, NIMA Award finalist and triple j Feature Artist, this blossoming artist openly synthesises her own life and times with profound finesse.
Described by NME as “nuanced, open-hearted revelations”, and matched with a voice so hopeful and haunting, the melancholy presented by Alice Skye could not be more inviting. With each performance, Skye conducts an exercise on how deep into their own heart a listener can excavate. Skye’s sophomore album, I Feel Better But I Don’t Feel Good (produced by Jen Cloher), sees her expanding sonic boundaries, bringing grungier, heavier flavours to the evolving sound, resulting in one entrancing passage after another.
The album was followed by a four-track remixes EP, with contributions from June Jones, Teether, Lonelyspeck and Elle Shimada. Titled Company, the EP sees both Shimada and Lonelyspeck rework slow-burning album closer ‘Wurega Djalin’ with spacious, textural electronics, while Jones remixes ‘Party Tricks’ into a driving synth-pop cut and Teether takes on lead vocals for a new version of ‘Stay In Bed’.
Steeped in success from the outset, Skye is steadily forging a reputation as one of Australia’s brightest talents. Her acclaimed debut album, Friends With Feelings, gained immediate playlisting, national airplay support and over a million streams. She’s since collaborated with the likes of Moby and Midnight Oil, received invitations to SXSW and Folk Alliance International and performed alongside acts such as Briggs, Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers and Thelma Plum.
The 2022 album tour will bring the unique experience of Alice Skye and her band to venues across Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle, Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne this May. Joined by special guests Harmony Byrne and Madi Colville-Walker.
