One of Australia’s most intense audio experiences, The Crooked Fiddle Band, have released their second LP, Moving Pieces Of The Sea, which was recorded in Chicago with the legendary Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Pixies, Gogol Bordello, Joanna Newsom).
Known for their explosive chainsaw-folk-prog, the shift in direction taken by Moving Pieces Of The Sea suggests something cinematic, expansive and epic in scale.
‘The Vanishing Shapes of a Better World’ is an epic and compelling instrumental, vast in scope and wide in breadth, while ‘Deepwater Drownings – Part I’ opens with folding tidal darkness and foreboding overtures before giving way to a spare and crystalline ‘Crooked Fiddle’ vocal.
The new work contains some rare vocal sequences. Recorded live in-studio, these textures add a tangible energy and narrative to the pieces. For the attuned listener, this record is The Crooked Fiddle Band’s finest work yet – and a must-listen release for those seeking dynamic, expressive and talented musicianship.
The band will head out on an extensive Australian tour in October, November and December.
