[News] HAYLEY MARY RELEASES DEBUT EP ‘THE PISS, THE PERFUME’ + ANNOUNCES MARCH HEADLINE SHOWS

Hayley Mary’s debut EP The Piss, The Perfume has been released into the world and headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne in March have been announced.

The Piss, The Perfume was produced by Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids) and masterfully fuses Americana, Australiana and punk songwriting with Motown inspired rhythms and soaring vocal style. Reflecting on the record Hayley says,

I told Scott I’d always wanted to make a record that sounded like a memory of your parents dancing in the kitchen, but your parents are Cyndi Lauper and Roy Orbison. I think he nailed all that, but also managed to glue five fairly disparate songs together into a cohesive and contemporary whole. ‘Ordinary Me,’ a ballad inspired by a love of Celtic melodies shares the space easily with ‘Brat’ a punky screamer on the opposite end of the aesthetic and thematic spectrum.

2019 saw Hayley Mary explode onto the scene with debut single ‘The Piss, The Perfume’, followed closely by the indelible ballad ‘Ordinary Me’ and recently released anthem ‘Like A Woman Should’. These articulate tracks explore the contradicting attitudes that co-exist in the current climate; irony and optimism, love and societal despair, and the EP exists as an extended expression of Hayley’s unapologetic desire to want more and to want better.

Hayley’s intrinsic ability to write music that is both familiar, yet a breath of fresh air, whilst also striking an emotive chord through her potent lyricism and welding of tension and release is showcased on The Piss, The Perfume, and has seen Hayley attract widespread global appeal. Praise and support has flooded in from Spotify, Apple, community radio, triple j, NME, Flood Magazine, CLASH, The 405, Paste Magazine, DIY Mag, The Line Of Best Fit and Idolator.
