[News] HOPE D RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM ‘CLASH OF THE SUBSTANCE’ + ALBUM TOUR KICKS OFF END OF MARCH

With her national headline tour fast approaching, Brisbane artist Hope D has today revealed the official video clip for her heartbreaking new single ‘Doormat’ – the lead single from recent debut album + queer coming-of-age soundtrack Clash Of The Substance.

Hope details Doormat “is about the breakup with my ex-partner who I lived with at the time. Focusing on the pain of moving things out of the house and all of the memories we created within its walls.” The video clip was directed by the very ex-partner the song was written about in the same home they shared while they were together.

Doormat is my favourite and the most meaningful song on the album to me personally. So I wanted the video to really portray what the song is about and the emotions experienced within the story” Hope explains. “To really make the video true to life, we filmed it in the same house we used to live in and refilled it with all of our personal items; like things on the walls, artwork, furniture and board games. To even further the authenticity of the story, my talented ex-partner Bridget Webb agreed to direct the video.

It was a difficult project and being in the space where we parted wasn’t too easy, but it’s such a special story to me that I wanted the process to be challenging. Having only a few of us film the whole thing made it easy to capture beautiful moments and I’m really grateful could happen to share the story of my favourite song. It really helped to process the whole narrative.
