[News] ISAAC DE HEER NEW ALBUM AND TOUR

Isaac de Heer 02-2

The new album from Isaac de Heer, Summer has been released, and the video for the album’s first single ‘Spaceships’ premiered by Tone Deaf.

Summer was crafted with the help of UK producer and friend Roger Mars and with local input from Melbourne producer Tony Dupe (Holly Throsby, Jack Ladder and Grand Salvo), It is more diverse, unhinged and exciting than anything previous, proceeding from the Streets EP.

From dreamy songs about the end of the world, hip hop inspired ramblings about spaceships, charango laments, piano ballads about time’s residue, to music written for his late grandfather’s poem, ‘Summer’; songwriter Isaac de Heer has been on a creative joyride. He makes warm and expansive folk numbers from influences ranging from lyrical prose, dreamy soundscapes, Michael Leunig, to the laneways and city scum of Melbourne.

Growing up disconnected from the power grid in Northern NSW, music was always magical for de Heer, consisting of Dylan, Bach, birds and one noisy generator. An interest grew from here to learning and playing a plethora of instruments in pursuit of capturing songs. This curiosity would later lead Isaac to seek inspiration through parts of Asia, India, South America and Europe. But things would always lead back to the home studio, recording songs between trams passing every eight minutes outside the Lygon Street window in Brunswick.

The album’s first single ‘Spaceships’ speaks of a grimy world out of touch with the everyday. Matched with a stunning video of drawings and animation, the track is otherworldly and playful. The ‘Spaceships’ video is the first animation Isaac has been involved in. It is a wonderful collaboration with Bernard Sullivan. A stranger until a fortuitous and random seating placement on a V- Line train heading to Wagga Wagga got them talking, first about books then about sounds.

Isaac de Heer will take Summer on the road throughout May and June, taking in Canberra, Central Coast, Sydney, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne. See below for tour dates and details.
