Peter Banks (far left in above image), best known as founding member and original guitarist of Yes, passed away of heart failure last Thursday.

Banks and bassist Chris Squire formed Yes in 1968, and played on the band’s first two albums, Yes (1969) and Time and a Word (1970), but was dismissed from the band prior to Time and a Word’s release due to disagreements over the album’s direction.

After Yes, Banks formed Flash, releasing three albums, Flash and In the Can (1972) and Out of Our Hands (1973). He then formed Empire and released Mark I (1973), Mark II (1974) and Mark III (1979).

Banks also released albums under his own name, Two Sides of Peter Banks (1973), Instinct (1994), Self-Contained (1995) and Reduction (1997).
