2015 was a turbulent year for Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats. In March they released their debut album, Last Year’s Tune, touring it up and down the East Coast to rave reviews. They were named one of the most exciting new acts to hit the stage at Port Fairy Folk Festival and launched the record to a sold out Gasometer Hotel in Melbourne. They were awarded four stars in The Age and Sydney Morning Herald who claimed “Skyscraper Stan Woodhouse is a revelation”.
Celebrations were cut short when the untimely passing of a loved one left the band unable to tour.
The album, with all the sweat and tears it cost, was placed upon the proverbial shelf as arrangements were made and the broken hearted were left to grieve. Skyscraper Stan continued to blow around the country, playing solo in Sydney, Wollombi, Woolongong, Darwin, Perth, Milton, Wagga Wagga, Jamberoo and anywhere else that would have him.
He shared stages with Ian Moss, Jon Stevens, James Reyne, Steve Smyth and Marlon Williams among many others. Then, with his cousin Oskar, also a member of the Commission Flats, Stan toured New Zealand from South to North, returned to Australia and set off again solo.
Now, ten months after the release of the record the wounds have healed and the band is back. Stan is taking the Commission Flats out on the road. The dynamic live show that has built the group a loyal following across Australia will be appearing at venues and festivals through South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Stan will also be passing through Western Australia accompanied by Oskar Herbig. The full schedule takes in major centres as well as regional shows.
