Sydney’s epic instrumental rock quartet sleepmakeswaves have announced a busy 2016 of touring, with over 50 shows across North America and Australia.
In August, the band will headline a national tour of Australia, with support from US progressive rockers The Contortionist and Perth piano-driven quartet Tangled Thoughts of Leaving. The shows will wrap up a massive tour in support of their latest single and video for ‘Traced in Constellations’ taken from ARIA Award and J Award nominated album Love of Cartography.
After kicking off the year at Tasmania’s Party in the Paddock Festival last week, the band have confirmed their return to North American for the first time since 2012, supporting progressive rock outfit The Contortionist & UK heavy rockers Monuments from March through to May. After returning home, they will join reunited Australian legends COG on a sold-out Australian tour in July & September, a prospect which has the band buzzing with excitement.
“Our love for COG goes back a very long way. This is what we call a ‘bucket list’ tour and we’re very humbled and grateful to be along for a small part of the journey of one of Australia’s most influential rock bands.”
sleepmakeswaves have had a massive year and a half touring in support of their second album Love of Cartography – after charting in the ARIA Top 40 upon its release and nominations for a J Award, ARIA Award and AIR Award, the band clocked up a 55-date 22-country tour across the UK, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia in 2015, as well as performances at Port Macquarie’s Festival of the Sun, recording a Live at the Wireless set for triple j and headlining the Bird’s Robe Records 5th birthday celebrations in December. 2016 has also so far seen the announcement of new guitarist Daniel Oreskovic, following the amicable departure of founding member Jonathan ‘Kid’ Khor.
With more shows planned ahead and writing for a third album already underway, 2016 is shaping up to be another epic year for the dynamic instrumental group.
