The first instalment of Sounds Good will feature two UK acts poised for big things in 2020, The Amazons and Boy Azooga with AUS newcomer FRITZ.

SOUNDS GOOD
AN IRREGULAR SHOWCASE OF NEW MUSIC
THE AMAZONS, BOY AZOOGA & FRITZ

WED 04 SEP | BIGSOUND, BRISBANE
THU 05 SEP | OXFORD ART FACTORY, SYDNEY
FRI 06 SEP | HOWLER, MELBOURNE

Touring on the back of their recently released sophomore album Future Dust and capping off a whirlwind year filled with chart domination, ubiquitous radio love and more shows that you can shake a vine leaf at, English rockers The Amazons are set to detonate. Packed with loose grooves, falsetto vocals and callbacks to musical luminaries like Led Zeppelin and Howlin’ Wolf, Future Dust has seen these Reading-born rascals embark on a massive UK run encompassing some of England’s biggest festivals and most prestigious venues. The Amazons will hit BigSound as one of the festival’s most anticipated international artists so it’s great news that punters in Sydney and Melbourne will also have the chance to check out stompers like ‘Doubt It’, ‘Mother’ and ‘25’ at these very special shows.

Also visiting from the motherland and joining in on the fun will be eclectic instigator Boy Azooga. Named from a Little Rascals chant and embodying the curious spirit of that film, this project is piloted by songwriter / drummer / maraca master Davey Newington. Taking up the drums at the age of 6 allowed plenty of time for Newington to let his parents’ musical heritage soak in. His Grandad was a jazz fiend, his Mum a clarinettist and his Dad a violinist and through a series of now inevitable seeming events, Davey has ended up a connoisseur on all variations of music.

His own output appears like a rainbow paint gun aimed at an empty canvas, with influences like Badly Drawn Boy, Sly & The Family Stone, Caribou, Black Sabbath and The Beastie Boys all converging produce the brilliant debut album 1, 2, Kung Fu. Visiting Australia for the first time, Boy Azooga has recently crystallized his efforts into band-form by adding chums Sam Barnes on bass, Dylan Morgan on keys and Dafydd Davies on drums.

Joining The Amazons and Boy Azooga for all three shows is DIY-till-you-die Newcastle local FRITZ (aka Tilly Murphy). At only 19-years-old, FRITZ has been described as the self-aware teen making sunny/sad surf rock. Her latest single ‘Jan 1’ is a cathartic hit is the second offering for the year after successful appearances at Austin’s SXSW and multiple Australian festival appearances.
