[News] TEENAGE JOANS RELEASE NEW SINGLE AHEAD OF ‘THE ROT THAT GROWS INSIDE MY CHEST’ ALBUM TOUR

Adelaide indie rock duo Teenage Joans pump up the jam with their brand new single ‘5 Things I Can Taste’ out today.

Loaded with glossy bounce and a karaoke-ready chorus, the track comes hot on the heels of previous single ‘Candy Apple’ which accompanied the announcement of the duo’s debut album The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest, due out on Friday 13 October via Domestic La La.

Propulsive, catchy and with some punk-stained bite lining its pop-soaked core, ‘5 Things I Can Taste’ was one of the final tracks conjured for The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest, with a clever lyrical structure for the eagle-eared that accompanies the single’s ode to an anxiety grounding technique.

‘5 Things I Can Taste’ was the last song we wrote for the album,” shares the band of their latest single. “When we were looking for the missing piece, we realised we wanted to write a fast-paced, almost punk song to top off the album. The lyric structure is pretty interesting too – each line starts with the last word of the line before it. As “counting 5 things you can see” is a mechanism to help ground yourself when experiencing anxiety, we wanted the lyrics to feel sporadic and chaotic, kind of how anxious thoughts feel.

Teenage Joans will appear at Grapevine Gathering across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia is October, before embarking on their national The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest album tour with special guests bella amor, Dulcie and aleksiah. Teenage Joans will also appear alongside The Chats supporting Foo Fighters in Perth and Melbourne this November.

The long-awaited debut album from the Kaurna/Adelaide duo, The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest furthers the Teenage Joans spell first cast when the pair released their debut single ‘By The Way’ in 2019. A dynamic, gripping and wholeheartedly unpredictable offering of 13 songs, The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest traverses soaring pop punk anthems, mosh pit-ready breakdowns and future karaoke classics; all while remaining searingly relatable and showcasing every inch of the Teenage Joans sonic psyche that has galvanized throughout the pair’s storied career.

Forming in 2018 as literal teenagers, Teenage Joans have gone on to charm audiences around the country over the years with their self-professed “juice-box punk-pop” sonic stylings. Having previously shared stages with the likes of Amy Shark, Violent Soho, Ball Park Music, The Chats and many more, the duo have consistently enamoured alongside their releases, including their 2021 EP Taste Of Me, their blazing 2022 single ‘Terrible’ and, most recently, their freshest material to date with singles ‘Superglue’ and ‘Candy Apple’.

At just 19 years of age, Gold Coast artist Bella Amor wields a dazzling blend of indie, pop and pop-punk influences into her own unique sound. With a worldly perspective well beyond her years, bella amor’s striking odes to love, live and the complexities of youth are galvanized by her innate storytelling ablities, resulting in an intimate yet engaging experience for a wide audience. Her modern pop and soul stylings has also seen her recently perform alongside Lime Cordiale, King Stingray and many more.

A three-piece indie pop band hailing from Perth, Dulcie forge a shared adoration for music into their charismatic creations. Forming during their studies at WAAPA, the trio went on to bring their own magical spin on the stylings of Phoebe Bridgers, HAIM and Odette, as seen most recently on their lush single ‘Off By Heart’. With multiple festival appearances in their wake, including Groovin the Moo and Laneway Festival, Dulcie have also toured with artists such as Ocean Alley, G-Flip, Amy Shark and Spacey Jane.

Hailing from the western suburbs of Adelaide, captivating singer-songwriter Aleksiah stormed onto the scene with her debut single ‘FERN’ in late 2022. Heavily influenced by her own day-to-day experiences, with a diverse lineup of influences spanning Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Whitney Houston, aleksiah has showcased her whimsy touring with Lime Cordiale and Kita Alexander, as well as onstage as triple j Unearthed’s live choice for Wayville’s Groovin the Moo earlier this year.
