Boys And Girls Down Under builds on unforgettable residencies in various cities in the USA, Toronto and London that THE HOLD STEADY have been doing since 2016. Australia’s turn will see THE HOLD STEADY perform Boys and Girls in America in full on one evening and Stay Positive in full on the other.

On the 2020 return to Australia, THE HOLD STEADY’S lead singer and guitarist Craig Finn said, “Some of the band’s favorite memories are from our three Australian tours, and we’re excited to share old and new music with the fans down there. It will be our first Australian shows with the current six piece lineup, which is the best THS yet.”

As with other weekend celebrations, fans will have additional ticketing choices, including a weekend ticket covering both shows; an option to buy a VIP Soundcheck ticket; and the option to purchase a limited edition Boys And Girls Down Under merch bundle.

Earlier this year, THE HOLD STEADY released their seventh studio album, Thrashing Thru The Passion, a collection of five brand new songs and five songs released digitally between November 2017 and March 2019. It was the band’s first album in five years and has earned accolades across the media landscape.

Pitchfork said “The Hold Steady treat rock the way Penn & Teller treat magic: They deconstruct it, demystify it and expose it warts and all, but do so out of love and a belief that its behind-the-scenes machinations are every bit as beautiful and intriguing as the polished final product.” While Rolling Stone noted Thrashing Thru The Passion is “A shockingly fun return-to-form collection of sad-sack storytelling,” the A.V. Club simply stated: ”The band’s tightest and most fun album since 2008’s Stay Positive.”

The first night at The Croxton will give Australia the chance to celebrate Boys And Girls In America IN FULL, along with fan favourites from THE HOLD STEADY’s stellar discography. Released October 3, 2006, Boys And Girls In America officially affirmed THE HOLD STEADY as one of the most singular outfits in rock ‘n’ roll history, equal parts hard-traveling bar band, sonically adventurous indie rockers, and master chroniclers of the lost and broken-hearted. Songs like ‘Chips Ahoy!’ and ‘Stuck Between Stations’ proved transcendent modern rock classics, fueled by epic hooks, massive choruses, and singer/guitarist Craig Finn’s utterly unique lyricism and intensely detailed songcraft.

Named by Pitchfork as one of the “Top 100 Albums of The 2000s” as well as the Best Album of 2006 by both Magnet and A.V. Club, Boys And Girls In America earned THE HOLD STEADY rapturous reviews from around the world: Rolling Stone declared the album “a sweet thing…fist-pumpable rock with brains, heart and words worth coming back to.”

Night two at The Croxton will be a celebration of 2008’s Stay Positive, an equally revered record containing two of the band’s biggest songs, ‘Sequestered In Memphis’ and ‘Constructive Summer’. Stay Positive enjoyed a special 10-year Anniversary reissue in late 2018 that expanded the original record to 3-LP’s with eight additional songs.

The reissue was accompanied by These Miracles Work, a five-episode podcast produced by Louisville Public Media and hosted by Peabody Award winner Sean Cannon and journalist/author Erin Keane. These Miracles Work offers a look at the making of Stay Positive and the immediate aftermath of its release and how this record formed the foundation of the next 10 years of the band.
