[CD Review] LIME CORDIALE – Falling Up The Stairs

Lime Cordiale Falling-Up-The-Stairs

I can still remember the very moment the quirky styling’s of Sydney-based eclectic rockers Lime Cordiale won me over. After hearing the witty charms of ‘Say It’ and having a good old boogie at their set at Peats Ridge Fest earlier in the year, my anticipation for a release from the high energy lads was high.

With the instant brass ridden grooves of ‘Bullshit Aside’ and ‘Sleeping At Your Door’, I felt like I was right back at Peats Ridge, having a good old boogie while soaking up the inebriating good-time vibes in the Lyrebird tent. As front-man Oliver Liembachs tantalizing vocal hovers amongst glorious harmonies and infectious rhythm.

But dismayingly the remainder of Falling Up The Stairs, despite being incredibly catchy, falls short of my original hopes, leaving the EP as a whole feeling somewhat incomplete, heartless and perhaps rushed as the remainder of the tracks meander with a distinct lack of Lime Cordiale’s normally quick-witted quirky punch.
Perhaps my mind is still wandering in the kaleidoscopic memory of the balmy festival hype, and the band’s unforgettably energetic set; but I wholeheartedly believe that Lime Cordiale could have done magnanimously better with this release.
