[Live Review] SAN CISCO (Central Coast)

The Beery, Terrigal
Saturday March 24, 2018 :

San Cisco – kids no more, yet still the coolest kids on any block, rolled into Terrigal for the second stop on The Distance regional tour and sent The Beery into a fevered frenzy.

Up first was Central Coast local Joel Leggett who’s massive 6 piece band, delivered a big sound in the form of quirky pop with a hint of shimmering disco flavour… introducing the nights theme of youthful, infectious grooves to a T.

Then followed MUKI, who I’d admittedly never heard of before but the Sydney-based pocket rocket bounded onto the the stage with sass ahoy and amped the crowd to a level that was just slightly disjointed from the rest of the lineup, slightly. But alas still well received by an audience unashamedly keen to cut shapes.

An eruption of cheers and San Cisco appeared in all their vibrant charm, stirring up widespread euphoria with a welcomed setlist mix across all 3 of their album releases. Older songs such as 2012 hit ‘Awkward’ had the delighted crowd ‘dadda-da-da-dadda-da-da-da-ing” along in nostalgia, and much the same reception for ‘Fred Astaire’ but perhaps the floor shook just little more beneath the feet of vigorously grooving bodies.

This outbreak of dance epidemic carried well into polished performances of latest singles ‘The Distance’, ‘Slomo’ and ‘Hey, Did I Do You Wrong?’ proving San Cisco’s unique indie-pop experimentation and charming onstage chemistry has earned the Fremantle based 4-piece undeniable loyalty amongst their many enthused fans… And for good reason! What a night!
