[News] BECK ANNOUNCES SPECIAL GUESTS FOR MELBOURNE & SYDNEY HEADLINE SHOWS

With his Palais Theatre, Melbourne, show on Monday 3 April almost sold-out and Sydney’s Aware Super Theatre on Thursday 6 April selling fast, fans of multi-platinum Grammy-winner Beck are set for two magical evenings when the iconic US songwriter returns to Australia soon for his first live performances down under in five years.

Having wowed fans in Austin, Nashville, London and Paris in 2022 with his latest intimate and acoustic, almost two-hour sets, Beck’s upcoming headline dates will highlight his songcraft and unparalleled versatility, the ‘Debra’, ‘Lost Cause’ and ‘The Golden Age’ singer delivering much-loved classics, covers and rarities.

Now, it has been announced that joining the bill as special guest in Sydney is one of Australia’s most acclaimed talents: Brisbane singer-songwriter and author Robert Forster. In Melbourne, VIC singer-songwriter Gena Rose Bruce joins the bill.

Forster – co-founder of The Go-Betweens with the late Grant McLennan – just released his 8th solo album, The Candle And The Flame. Led by the singles ‘She’s A Fighter’, and ‘Tender Years’ the album has been met with immediate praise around the world from critics and fans alike. The Candle And The Flame sees the indelible Forster at his captivating best. Sydney, this is the chance to witness two of the finest songwriters of their generation together in one night on stage. Simply put, Beck with special guest Robert Forster is not to be missed!

Melbourne: with its title track co-written by and featuring US singer-songwriter Bill Callahan, local singer/songwriter Gena Rose Bruce unveiled her acclaimed sophomore album, Deep Is The Way, in January 2023. Navigating emotional turmoil, fragility, death and honesty on her latest release, the LP scored a Feature Album on PBS and Double J, who quickly heralded her as “one of the country’s brightest emerging indie talents”.

‘The Golden Age’, ‘Debra’, ‘Rowboat’, ‘Heart Is A Drum’, ‘Nobody’s Fault But My Own’, ‘Lost Cause’, ‘Sissyneck’, ‘Say Goodbye’, ‘Guess I’m Doing Fine’, ‘Pay No Mind’… Beck’s solo sets earlier in 2022 (in Paris, London, Nashville, and Austin) included songs from across his extraordinary catalogue.

As the title of his most recent album Hyperspace might imply, Beck has travelled light years from his emergence as a reluctant generational spokesperson when ‘Loser’ exploded from a rejected 1992 demo into a ubiquitous 1994 smash. In the decades since, his singular career has seen him explore all genres and eras of music, blurring boundaries and blazing a path into the future while foraging through the past.

Beginning with his 1994 debut Mellow Gold, Beck’s creative evolution has always progressed at an exponential rate. From 1996’s multi-platinum cultural touchstone Odelay to 1998’s world-tripping Mutations and the florescent funk of 1999’s Midnite Vultures, 2002’s sombre Sea Change, 2005’s platinum tour de force Guero and 2006’s sprawling The Information, 2008’s acclaimed Modern Guilt, 2014’s Album of the Year Grammy winner Morning Phase, the “euphoric blast of experimental pop” (Rolling Stone) that was 2017’s Colors and his 2019 “best in a decade” (People) Hyperspace… No Beck record has ever sounded like its predecessor – though The New York Times notes a consistent thread: “Though Beck’s records through the years have tended toward maximalism, a kind of meticulous sonic gorgeousness, melody remains central to his art.

With a peerless career and revelatory live shows, don’t miss the critically acclaimed Beck – live on stage next autumn.
