[News] BOOTLEG RASCAL RETURN WITH DOUBLE A-SIDE RELEASE + AUST AND NZ TOUR DATES

One of Australia’s most endearing and eclectic party outfits Bootleg Rascal are excited to reveal their new double A-side release ‘Yin & Yang’ – produced by the band themselves, long-time collaborator Ian Pritchett (Boo Seeka, Kim Churchill, Angus and Julia Stone), with additional production by Simon Dobson (Little May).

‘Yin & Yang’ features the tracks ‘Get Over Myself’ and ‘Tryin’ To Run’, and like the double release title suggests, both songs are on the opposite spectrum; however, still effortlessly complement one another.

‘Get Over Myself’ explores the urban sonics of Bootleg Rascal, taking cues from the likes of Outkast, Jay-Z and The Weeknd. Opening with agonising screeches and a subtle splash of keys, an unwavering beat kicks in against walls of warped bass-infused synths, as the fiercely commanding cadences of front man Carlos Lara flow seamlessly into the howling chorus.

Lara describes the motivation behind the track: “We really wanted to do something different, explore incorporating different aspects of music that we really love listening to, like Hip-Hop and Soul. It’s also just a hell fun song“.

A nod to the more traditional sounds of the band, ‘Tryin’ To Run’ is an explosion of indie-dub sunshine with feel-good riffs, groove-laden percussion and infectious sing-a-long’s. The deft guitar work of Jimmy Young shines brightly, meticulously composed and thoughtfully paired with the charismatic vocal performance of Lara.

We just wanted to create a bit of a Cake-esque jam; something you can have some fun with” says Young. “I think this is a pretty classic style Bootleg jam. Some groove driven dirty riffs with a gang bang, sing-a-long ending”.

To celebrate the release of ‘Yin & Yang’, the group will once again hit the road in Australia and New Zealand. The eight date tour will be held across August and September with performances in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Queenstown, Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland and Tauranga. Joining them on all three Australian dates will be Sydney-based indie-rock crowd-favourite Timi Temple and Byron Bay-based indie-dance newcomer AKA Lui.

Since their mid-2013 inception, Bootleg Rascal have released a slew of singles, an EP and two albums, all warmly received by critics and fans around the world. Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the stations esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment.

The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.

In the coming weeks Bootleg Rascal will reveal accompanying music videos for both ‘Get Over Myself’ and ‘Tryin’ To Run’.
