[News] BRISBANE ‘S NINE LIVES FESTIVAL RETURNS JUNE 2021

Brisbane’s favourite record store Jet Black Cat Music and Handsome Tours are excited to announce that, true to its name, Nine Lives Festival will return to Brisbane on Saturday 26th June 2021 following its acclaimed debut in 2020.

A one-day, two-stage event to take place indoors and outdoors at the iconic Tivoli, Nine Lives promises to be a very Brissy block party for lovers of tunes, mates and community. The event will star an eclectic line-up led by Perth songwriter Stella Donnelly, jazz/kraut groove masters Mildlife and post-apocalyptic, acid punk scuzzheads Tropical F*** Storm.

Housed at the Fortitude Valley’s Tivoli, Nine Lives will take place across two live stages in General Admission format, meaning dancing is allowed and encouraged! Music lovers will be able to share a boogie with mates in Tivoli’s open-air carpark, where DJs will spin from noon into the evening hours while food trucks will serve up the city’s most delicious bites.

Safety of patrons will remain paramount. For this reason, Nine Lives 2021 will be taking place in a significantly reduced capacity, with less than 50% the amount of sellable tickets as the sold-out 2020 event. This means more room to sprawl out and rock out – but be quick, tickets for this intimate instalment are extremely limited!

Carefully curated from top to bottom, fans will be left in awe by South Sudan’s King of Music, Gordon Koang. Melbourne will be representing all-day as psych-collective Bananagun bring their infectious grooves, six-piece Cool Sounds bend genres, Floodlights harken back to the sounds of 80s and 90s alt, and crowds lose themselves in Surprise Chef’s jazz-funk instrumentals.

If that’s not enough, Nine Lives has once again invited a bunch of the best up-and-coming acts from across the nation including Charly, Family Jordan, Lucky Idiot, Maple Glider, and Middle Name Dance Band. And as always, punters are encouraged to dance their way through the day as outdoors will be flooded with beats by DJs including Dameeeela, DJ Heartbeats, Mumgenes, Rock Lobster, In the Flowers and First Beige DJs.

Nine Lives Festival made its sold-out debut in February 2020 with an all-star line-up including Julia Jacklin, Angie McMahon, Aldous Harding, Allah-Las, Kevin Morby, Kikagaku Moyo, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Hand Habits, First Beige and Sycco.

Of the event, Double J wrote “The vibe felt similar to the earliest Brisbane iteration of the Laneway Festival… The line-up was perfect.” Purple Sneakers wrote “Nine Lives Festival was a really big moment for Brisbane and for the greater industry as a whole. It showed promoters and the wider industry that there is an appetite for something different… I have a feeling Nine Lives Festival is here to stay

Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a beautiful golden winter day in the Valley.
