Charles Bradley’s late-in-life career surge has been nothing short of remarkable: For years he hitchhiked around the country, working odd jobs here and there, until he was finally discovered in Brooklyn where he was performing in James Brown concerts. Now he’s set to release his second LP, Victim of Love, on April 2nd via Daptone.

Now you can take an exclusive first listen to Victim of Love, which opens with “Strictly Reserved for You,” Bradley’s croon crackling over a buoyant groove from the Menahan Street Band. While he continues to shine on more traditional soul and R&B cuts like the torn ballad “Crying in the Chapel,” Bradley expands his musical horizons throughout the LP, edging his ragged howl into psychedelic soul like on the fitful, flute-laden “Love Bug Blues” and the dissonant, reverb soaked “Confusion.”
