[News] MALLRAT ANNOUNCES NEW EP IN THE SKY AND JUNE NATIONAL HEADLINE TOUR

Despite currently being busy wowing audiences over at SXSW in the US, Mallrat has still found time in her crazy schedule to today announce her highly-anticipated new EP, In The Sky, as well as announce she’ll be heading on the road for a national tour this June.

In The Sky will be released June 1 via Dew Process in Australia and NZ, and Nettwerk Music Group in the US and Europe, and follows on from the release of her two already immensely popular singles from it, ‘Better’ and ‘UFO’ (feat. Allday).

2018 is shaping up to be the year of the Mallrat, after ‘Better’ landed her a debut spot in the triple j Hottest 100 (#46), and ‘UFO’ followed up to widespread international acclaim and huge streaming numbers.

‘UFO’ served as the perfect precursor to the maturity and diversity of the music set to appear on In The Sky, which takes its name from a lyric she realised subconsciously and repeatedly crept into her songbook. The EP is also a testament to not only how much she’s grown as a vocalist but also as a composer. Alongside ‘Better’ and ‘UFO’ the record is set to feature some of her most outstanding songs to date, as well as collaborations with producers like BJ Burton (Bon Iver).

I’ve got a better understanding of production,” says Mallrat (aka Grace Shaw). “I’m able to really direct that now. I’m able to build everything up from scratch and be very particular about what I want.”

Mallrat’s career has skyrocketed since her humble beginnings as a tween rapper in the suburbs of Brisbane. She now counts a huge following of fans, from her current base in Melbourne through to gigantic international locations like Mexico City. Her refreshingly honest observations of day-to-day life, her relatable and confessional lyrics, and her penchant for writing sticky melodies that you just can’t shake have all shaped her into the kind of artist that is perfectly positioned to be Australia’s next big name in pop music.

The shower of acclaim she’s received in accordance with that recognition has been universal and from as diverse a range of outlets, such as the New York Times, NPR, NME, Beats 1, Noisey, Pigeons and Planes, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, Project U and Pilerats, just to name a few.

Meanwhile, she’s also forging a reputation as one of the most endearing live performers in the country, and this upcoming national tour, supported by triple j, is only destined to cement that further. Ninajirachi and Eilish Gilligan are the two stellar supports heading along to join Mallrat in this incredible lineup.
